Camera Arrived and yes its a PlayStation 3 Eye

I was very pleased to find that when I came home this evening my Playstation 3 Eye had arrived! This camera will be the core of the camera vision in my multi-touch table. I am starting out with 1 camera for now but may end up adding a second if response doesn’t meet my expectations.
Upon initial inspection I got lucky and have received one of the modifiable PS3 Eyes. In case you’re wondering what I am talking about there is a thread at the NUI group forums discussing the newer unmodifiable lens (here) that has the IR filter built right into it. From the discussing it sounds like a high number of these are now appearing. Peau Productions has a write up on this also on their website. So it looks like I have been very lucky. BTW, I ordered mine from Amazon.com.
This evening I will begin my modification and post a write-up on it. I have not yet ordered a bandpass filter as I haven’t determined my illumination process and wavelength yet. I will use a piece of a floppy drive and my natural light filter for now.
Using the wonderful driver provided by Code Laboratories I now have the PS3 Eye installed and running on my system. The current test system is running Windows Vista 32-bit though the final system will be a Windows 7 64-bit one. Below is a picture of video being captured. Note that the image is blurry, this is due to me having already modded the camera (yes I couldn’t wait!). The important thing is that it is working!
