Kinect for Windows Hardware buy yours today on Amazon
YES it is here! Today Microsoft announced they have officially released the Kinect for Windows SDK and Hardware and yes it is commercial friendly. Check out this quote from the Kinect for Windows FAQS.
The Beta license was restrictive and did not allow for distribution of commercial applications. How does the license work with this release?
The commercial license for this release authorizes development and distribution of commercial applications. The prior SDK was a beta, and as a result was appropriate only for research, testing and experimentation, and was not suitable for use with a final, commercial product. The new license will enable developers to create and sell their Kinect for Windows applications to end user customers using Kinect for Windows hardware on Windows platforms.
Now all you have to do is get started developing your kick a$$ application and use it commercially. I know I already have several ideas I have been playing with. Join me in helping to change the way the world interacts with PC’s by developing your very own Kinect for Windows application.

I’ve been playing with the Microsoft Kinect and SDK at home for some time now and have yet to sit down and put together anything worth while. After watching this video on how a creative teacher is using the Kinect and a custom program to allow students to interact with graphs and charts I must admit that I am feeling a bit inspired. As we head into the winter here in Ohio we’ll see what comes out of the home lab.
If you are a NUI fan or just interested in what the Kinect can do without an Xbox watch the video

UPDATED: A newer version has been released visit this POST
Earlier this week I received an email informing me of the release of the EDSDK 2.9 library. I must say that this has been a quick release cycle for Canon and their SDK. Upon reviewing the change notes for this release there really only appears to be 2 changes.
First, Canon added support for their latest EOS camera the Canon EOS 60D. Second they removed support for the antiquated Windows™ 2000 operating system.
That being said I did look through the headers and C files for differences and have provided my findings below.

As I noted in my previous post, modification to my new Playstation 3 Eye was performed last night (I really just couldn’t wait). I am currently awaiting my 850 nm bandpass filter from Peau Productions which will hopefully be here next week, early!
Well let’s get started with a brief write up on this initial mod to the PS3 Eye, removing the IR filter. Below is a picture of the camera as I received it. Now let’s hack!

I was very pleased to find that when I came home this evening my Playstation 3 Eye had arrived! This camera will be the core of the camera vision in my multi-touch table. I am starting out with 1 camera for now but may end up adding a second if response doesn’t meet my expectations.

This post is the first of what should be many to come. I have decided to put a project that I have long had on hold (2 years or so). I am going to build a multi-touch table like the Microsoft Surface for myself. I have long read on this product and dreamed to have one, but alas I just don’t have $12,000 laying around to drop on one of these. Being a bit of a DIYer I have decided to take up the journey that many have and build my own!
